Open PTA Executive Board Positions

Serving in a PTA leadership role doesn't mean taking on another full-time job. Our Board and committees work together to share the load, and many responsibilities can be handled on your own schedule. Whether you have a few hours a month or are looking for a bigger way to contribute, there may be a role that's a great fit for you.

Below you'll find an overview of our current openings, what each role involves, and the approximate time commitment.

💰 Treasurer

Estimated commitment: Moderate | ~2–4 hours/month, with busier periods around events and budgeting

The Treasurer helps keep the PTA financially organized and ensures that funds are handled responsibly. This is a great role for someone who is comfortable with numbers, organization, and keeping good records.

What you’ll do:

  • Track PTA income and expenses and maintain accurate financial records.

  • Make deposits and reimburse approved PTA expenses.

  • Provide a brief financial update at PTA meetings.

  • Help develop and monitor the PTA's annual budget.

  • Maintain receipts, invoices, bank statements, and other financial documentation.

  • Work with the PTA President and Board on financial decisions.

  • Help complete required annual financial reporting, audits/reviews, and tax-related documentation.

Good fit for: Someone who is organized, dependable, comfortable working with numbers, and willing to learn PTA financial procedures. You do not need to be an accountant.

📝 Recording Secretary

Estimated commitment: Light | ~1–2 hours/month + attending PTA/Board meetings

The Recording Secretary helps the PTA stay organized by maintaining an official record of important discussions and decisions. This is one of the more manageable officer positions for someone who wants to get involved without taking on a large workload.

What you’ll do:

  • Attend PTA and Executive Board meetings.

  • Take clear notes and record meeting minutes.

  • Document motions, votes, and major decisions.

  • Distribute minutes for review and approval.

  • Maintain an organized record of approved meeting minutes.

  • Occasionally help the Board keep track of decisions or follow-up items.

Good fit for: Someone who is organized, a good listener, and comfortable taking notes and summarizing information.

🙋🏽‍♀️ Volunteer Coordinator

Estimated commitment: Moderate & Variable | ~1–3 hours/month normally; more during major events

The Volunteer Coordinator helps connect parents and caregivers who want to help with the PTA to opportunities where their time and talents are needed. The workload varies throughout the year depending on the PTA's event calendar.

What you’ll do:

  • Help recruit volunteers for PTA events and activities.

  • Create and manage volunteer sign-ups.

  • Communicate event details and expectations to volunteers.

  • Work with event and committee leads to determine how many volunteers are needed.

  • Send reminders and help make sure volunteer spots are filled.

  • Help identify parents who may be interested in becoming more involved with the PTA.

  • Make volunteering feel welcoming and accessible—even for families who only have an hour or two to give.

Good fit for: Someone who enjoys connecting with people, communicating, organizing, and encouraging others to participate.

🌎 Hispanic Outreach Committee Coordinator

Estimated commitment: Light–Moderate | ~1–3 hours/month, depending on activities

The Hispanic Outreach Committee Coordinator helps ensure that Hispanic and Spanish-speaking families feel welcomed, informed, and connected to the PTA and school community. The goal isn't simply translation—it's helping build relationships and making PTA participation more accessible.

What you’ll do:

  • Serve as a connection between the PTA and Hispanic/Spanish-speaking families.

  • Help share information about PTA activities, events, and opportunities.

  • Identify barriers that may prevent families from participating and help the PTA address them.

  • Encourage families to attend PTA events, meetings, and activities.

  • Help the PTA identify opportunities to make events and communications more inclusive.

  • Coordinate occasional outreach activities or initiatives based on the interests and needs of families.

  • Work with other PTA leaders and committees rather than having to do everything independently.

Good fit for: Someone who enjoys building community and relationships and is passionate about making families feel included. Spanish-language skills would be very helpful, particularly for communicating directly with families.
